چکیده
Abstract. This paper focuses on the monitoring of a small hanging glacier with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images using combination artificial Corner Reflectors (CRs) and dGNSS field measurements. First, to test performance CRs in high-resolution X-band medium-resolution C-band acquired by PAZ Sentinel-1 satellites respectively, series tests was performed two installed Chamonix valley. After confirmation good visibility valley datasets from both satellites, four were summer 2021 steep (≈ 52° average slope) North face Aiguille du Midi (3842 ma.s.l., Mont-Blanc massif). successful installation glacier, all visible sets (PAZ Sentinel-1). Using as reference, displacements estimated SAR complex cross-correlation, validated ground measurements (dGNSS) theoretical relationships between ice thickness surface velocity. We observed velocities ≈ 0.05 m/day at front 0.04 displacement estimates. The study shows potential limitations tool for glaciers topographies.

متن کاملMonitoring Alpine glacier activity by a combined use of TerraSAR-X images and continuous GPS measurements – the Argentière glacier experiment
The monitoring of Alpine glacier activity is one of the applications which require the combined use of ground measurements and SAR data. It should become feasible thanks to the new generation SAR satellites (ALOS, TerraSAR-X, Cosmo-SkyMed and RadarSAT-2) and the high precision GPS measurements. This paper presents the early results of an experiment which started in 2007 on Argentière glacier (M...
متن کاملInstability of a High Alpine Rock Ridge: the Lower Arête Des Cosmiques, Mont Blanc Massif, France
Rockfalls are dominant in the rock slopes and rock ridge morphodynamics in high mountain areas and endanger people who pass along or stay there, as well as infrastructure that host them (cable cars, refuges). Risks are probably greater now because of fast permafrost degradation and regression of surface ice, two consequences of the atmospheric warming of the last decades. These two commonly ass...
متن کاملAccurate Analysis of Target Characteristic in Bistatic SAR Images: A Dihedral Corner Reflectors Case
The dihedral corner reflectors are the basic geometric structure of many targets and are the main contributions of radar cross section (RCS) in the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. In stealth technologies, the elaborate design of the dihedral corners with different opening angles is a useful approach to reduce the high RCS generated by multiple reflections. As bistatic synthetic aperture ...

This paper highlights the contribution of TerraSAR-X (TSX) High Resolution (HR) images for temperate glacier monitoring. A series of 14 images have been acquired since October 2007 on the Mont-Blanc test area. This area involves well-known temperate glaciers which have been monitored and instrumented ("stick" for annual displacement/ablation, GPS, cavitometer for basal displacement...) for more...
